Naturally Simple Food-Grade Vegetable Glycerin

Glycerin (sometimes known as glycerine) is a thick, clear, colorless, multi-use liquid with a natural, moderately sweet taste. Typically used as a humectant (an ingredient that keeps things moist — like cake!), glycerin can also act as a thickener and an emulsifier. Wildly’s food-grade glycerin is exceptionally clean and made from coconuts. It’s also a sustainable alternative to glycerin made from palm, which may hold deforestation and environmental concerns for some people. Wildly’s coconut glycerin contains 99.7% fatty ester extracted from coconut oil and 0.3% water. Fatty esters — typically fatty acids combined with an alcohol such as glycerol — have a considerably low caloric content, making this glycerin great for different recipes.

What is Glycerin Used for?

Food-grade glycerin is often used as alcohol replacement in tinctures because its hygroscopic properties (attracting and retaining water) allow for better absorption of other ingredients.

Vegetable glycerine also works well as a massage oil due to its water-solubility (it washes right off!) or as a carrier oil in essential oil or other moisturizer-based skincare.

Other carrier oils tend to dilute the potency of essential oils; all-natural food-grade vegetable glycerin, however, helps your skin better absorb the moisturizing agents found in essential oils and aids in a healthy, natural glow.

How We Make Our Glycerin

Our plant-based food-grade glycerin is made with ultra-pure water, pressure, and high temperatures to extract fatty esters from coconut oil.

While our glycerin cannot be considered a “raw” product, the high temperatures allow us to kill detrimental enzymes. We then complete each product by testing it for heavy metals, chlorides, sulfates, moisture, and other impurities that could compromise the integrity of the product.

Vegetable glycerine

This product is perfect my needs. First, it is coconut sourced and not palm which makes it an environmentally sound choice. I actually use it in creating natural cosmetics and works very well.

How is this product different from coconut oil? Does it contain any alcohol?

This product is alcohol free. It is the fat of the coconut, not the oil.
This is ideal for making skin care products or internal extractions called glycerits.
Some herbalist work with glycerin extractions I stead of alcohol, because it works great for kids or those sensitive to alcohol.

What is the typical shelf life of your vegetable glycerin and how should one properly store it? Also, would refrigeration extend its shelf life?

Hi there! Thank you for your question. Our vegetable glycerin has a 6-year best by date. Pure vegetable glycerin, like ours, doesn't oxidize easily, so its shelf life is long. Refrigeration isn't necessary. Store in a cool, dry place like a pantry.

Is this the same glycerin used in cape juice, I make my own and bullcity has finally added a label and not6sure but to me this is not pure according to the label

Yes, it is pure, although we cannot speak to the contents of other products. It's certainly possible juices you're familiar with have used glycerin in their ingredients.
